Table 4. Concentrations of Interleukin 1β, Interleukin 1ra, Tumor Necrosis Factor α, and Interleukin 10 in Whole Blood Obtained before Surgery (T1), after Discontinuation of Cardiopulmonary Bypass (T2), and 24 h after Cardiopulmonary Bypass (T3)

Supernatants were assayed for cytokines after a 24-h culture period in the absence or presence of lipopolysaccharide (1 μg/ml). Data are corrected for 1:5 dilution with RPMI 1640. Data are median (25th–75th percentile).

*P < 0.05 versus  after induction of anesthesia (T1).

P < 0.05 versus  end of cardiopulmonary bypass (T2).

CPB = cardiopulmonary bypass; IL = interleukin; ra = receptor antagonist; TNF-α= tumor necrosis factor α.
