Table 9. Accuracy of the CARE Score versus Other Clinical Variables for Prediction of Mortality and Morbidity in the Reference Population
The P value is for comparisons between the Cardiac Anesthesia Risk Evaluation (CARE) score and each clinical variable. Cutoff points for the various receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves: left ventricular ejection fraction:≥ 55%, 45–54%, 30–34%, 20–29%, < 20%; age: 5-yr increment from < 65 to ≥ 80 yr; serum creatinine (μm): < 125, 125–140, 141–167, 168–200, > 200; operative priority: elective, urgent (diagnosis and surgery on same admission), emergency within 24 h, immediate emergency; type of surgery: repair of atrial septal defect, coronary artery bypass graft surgery, single valve surgery, combined or complex procedures, and any of those procedures plus reoperation.
ASA = American Society of Anesthesiologists; NYHA = New York Heart Association; LVEF = left ventricular ejection fraction.
