Fig. 1. Time course of the sodium orthovanadate (Na3VO4)–induced contraction of rat aortic smooth muscle and the effect of tyrosine kinase inhibitor, genistein, on the Na3VO4-stimulated contraction. Ring tension was measured using isometric force transducer. Na3VO4(10−4m) elicited a gradually sustained contraction, reaching the peak response at 12.8 ± 3.2 min of application and maintaining for at least 2 h ( A ). The Na3VO4-elicited contraction was significantly attenuated in the presence of genistein (5 × 10−5m) applied 15 min before ( B ) or after ( C ) treatment with Na3VO4. The recording was representative of eight independent experiments.
