In October 2021, I assumed the presidency of the Society of Academic Associations of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine (SAAAPM). In undertaking this role, I succeeded Ronald Pearl, MD, PhD, who had been the longstanding chair at Stanford, and who stood down from this position in October 2021. Ron has done yeoman's work steering us through the turbulent waters of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For those of you outside the academic community who may not be aware of us, SAAAPM represents, advocates, and educates around issues pertinent to academic anesthesiology with the purpose of enhancing education, research, and quality clinical care in academic settings. As the name suggests, it consists of more than one group. In fact, it is made up of four separate groups representing chairs, residency program directors, fellowship program directors, and program administrators.
