One decade ago, ASA launched the Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH) initiative in response to the shift from volume- to value-based health care. With anesthesiologists increasingly being measured by the cost-effectiveness and quality of care they provided, ASA knew a patient-centric, team-based care model would best serve our members and their patients. But advancing an initiative of that size, scale, and import takes a proverbial village. Fortunately, we have one.

From early in the initiative, the society received corporate support. Indeed, corporate partners helped us advance the PSH, pitching in by providing needed funding. Shortly after introducing the PSH Learning Collaborative, for example, Veterans Affairs hospitals and hospitals in rural and underserved communities expressed interest in joining. However, these hospitals needed extra financial support to join the PSH Learning Collaborative.
