Since its inception in 1962, the Emery A Rovenstine Memorial Lecture has been a bellwether event – a one-hour distillation of the most pressing issues of our time by a leader at the forefront of those issues. This October in New Orleans, Claude D. Brunson, MD, MS, CPE, FASA, becomes the next in a long succession of luminaries with his talk, “Demonstrating ASA's Leadership by Enhancing Our Relationships: How We Can Do DEI Better.”

Dr. Brunson is currently Executive Director of the Mississippi State Medical Association (MSMA) and Professor Emeritus of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He is a Past President of the MSMA (2014) and Mississippi Society of Anesthesiologists (1998). Dr. Brunson is the first and only African American to serve as MSMA President in that society's more than 160-year history. He is also the first and only African American to serve as its Executive Director.
