The ASA Committee on Global Humanitarian Outreach (GHO) had a robust and active year in spite of challenges posed by COVID-19! Although travel and in-person activities and meetings were limited due to health considerations, virtual meetings, educational activities, and brainstorming have continued to occur.
In addition to regular meetings, new and continuing members of the committee “met” each other virtually through brief PowerPoint introductions at the formal committee meeting held virtually prior to the annual meeting. A series of brainstorming sessions were held virtually after the 2021 annual meeting to discuss a wide range of topics, including a critical look at the name, mission, and vision of the committee. Future discussions will center around ways to help ASA members across the continuum (from trainee to retiree) find ways to be involved in humanitarian outreach and efforts to improve health equity at home and throughout the world.
