There is evidence demonstrating that, in general, women in anesthesiology have disproportionately fewer leadership roles in departments, professional societies and organizations compared to men. This is in spite of the fact that several women have made substantial contributions in advancing our field. The reasons are multifactorial, and a strategic approach to address the gender gap has been recommended. SNACC (Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care) as an organization is committed to ensuring and promoting gender equality at all levels and, in fact, has been very fortunate to have been served and led by some outstanding women who have had a significant impact on advancing not just neuroanesthesiology or anesthesiology, but medicine and science in general.
