As we started 2018, anesthesia and pain medicine practices had a long “to-do” list. Some of the tasks were those done every year, such as updating coding and billing functions to reflect updates to the CPT® code set and the ASA Relative Value Guide® and CROSSWALK®. The Quality Payment Program (QPP) established by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) introduced new duties, such as reporting on quality measures and attesting to Improvement Activities to wrap up 2017 participation in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). Practices also need to prepare for their 2018 QPP participation. The pace does not slow as we start the second quarter of the year.
