The Anesthesia History Association (AHA) and International Symposium on the History of Anesthesia (ISHA) welcome entries for the C. Ronald Stephen, M.D. Anesthesia History Essay Contest. Dr. Stephen (1916-2006) was one of the “Greatest” of the “Greatest Generation” of anesthesiologists who helped to define our present specialty. Upon his death, friends and former students established an endowment to perpetuate his memory.
The contest is open to all physicians or medical students who create the essay during residency, fellowship or medical school. A prize of $1,000 is awarded to the winner.
Entries can be on any topic related to the history of anesthesiology, pain medicine or critical care, and must be less than 2,500 words in length. The winning essay must be submitted to the Journal of Anesthesia History (JAH) to be considered for possible publication. The remaining entrants are encouraged but not required to submit entries to JAH.
