For more than 30 years, the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA) has been a place for ambulatory anesthesiologists to come together in order to advance this important subspecialty. Our mission at SAMBA is to educate physicians and patients about the role of the ambulatory anesthesiologist in perioperative care and provide professional guidance in the practice of ambulatory anesthesia. As current president of SAMBA, it’s my job to continue the traditions of our society and build on the strong foundations established by our founders and past presidents. It’s a daunting task to follow such luminaries as Bernard Wetchler, Bert Epstein, Bev Philip, Ricki Twersky, Frances Chung, and many others. Luckily I have a lot of help. Our board, committee chairs, past presidents and hundreds of members give tirelessly of themselves to advance our society’s goals.
