As the deadline for tracking quality measures approaches, ASA is the resource to support physician anesthesiologists, group practices and those who are responsible for reporting data under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015, commonly known as MACRA. The new regulation repeals the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula and creates the Quality Payment Program (QPP), which ensures that Medicare payments are aligned with quantifiable performance and quality metrics. MACRA rewards physicians and clinicians for giving better care, not just more care. Under MACRA, physician payment adjustments are dependent on the outcome measures reported. The first performance period opened January 1, 2017, and closes December 31, 2017. Quality and performance data is due to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) by March 31, 2018.
