Physician anesthesiologists today are emerging with the building blocks that continue to create safer care for the patients they serve, along with raising the standards in the profession for a confident future. It is vital that ASA understand the systems by which our members operate so we can develop the capacities and improve the skills our residents need to help maintain the future of anesthesiology. At the same time, it is vital we meet the needs of experienced practitioners who are functioning at various levels of the spectrum in their career.
Continuing professional development is one of the primary frameworks for achieving these goals, and for encouraging physician anesthesiologists to take responsibility for improving their practices and helping to create systems-based workplaces in which they will be supported as leaders in their care team.
