Anesthesiology is unique in its leading-edge use of simulation for practicing physicians as part of the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA®) process. As of January 2014, 39 simulation programs have been endorsed to be part of the ASA Simulation Education Network (SEN). These programs have demonstrated they have the processes, personnel, facilities and faculty to offer high-level simulation sessions that meet the requirements for part IV of the MOCA process. They are geographically distributed across the United States, allowing busy anesthesiologists the opportunity to attend a program at a place and a time that is most convenient for them.
Although many anesthesiologists approach their MOCA simulation session with trepidation, there really is no reason for fear.
