The contest is open to physicians who compose an essay during residency or fellowship. Essays can be on any topic related to the history of anesthesiology, pain medicine or critical care, and must be less than 3500 words in length.
A prize of $1,000 will be given to the winner, who then will be required to present an abstract of their work at the annual meeting of the AHA in Detroit on April 30-May 3, 2014. Local expenses, meals and registration, but not travel, will be reimbursed.
Entrees will be judged on originality, quality of research, writing and bibliography. Entries must be received no later than midnight September 20, 2013.
Essays should be composed using Microsoft Word 2003 or later version and submitted via email to jmckeown@uab.edu. Illustrations should be in jpg or pdf format.
