Eight years ago, Andrew D. Rosenberg, M.D. and the Committee on Scientific and Educational Exhibits introduced a new section at the annual meeting that allowed physicians, both attendings and residents, to present medically challenging cases they have managed and which provide educational value. The section has been a resounding success, and each year the number of presentations has grown, with more than 900 poster sessions presented at last year’s meeting. Discussion is very lively at the poster presentations, and each year the committee has strived to provide the most interactive and educational experience possible. At the meeting this past year, the moderated discussions were further refined to allow increased time for interaction among the moderators and presenters, resulting in an even livelier and educational interaction. Each session was moderated by physicians who volunteered to aid in the discussion and presentation. Each session was overseen by a committee member. Once again this year, we will be offering the opportunity to designate your presentation as part of a section on patient safety in conjunction with the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation. Why don’t you consider presenting at this year’s meeting in San Francisco? The section provides a dynamic and informative forum for physicians to share their experiences, teach others how they have handled a difficult situation, and receive feedback as to how others might have proceeded under the same circumstances. It also serves as a stepping stone to potential research projects stemming from the clinical world and allowing application of translational science!

Medically challenging presentations are open to ASA members, attendings, and residents and must be submitted online at the annual meeting website at www2.asahq.org/web/index.asp. Please note that the deadline for submission has been changed and is now May 31, 2013.
