The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) is dedicated, through its mission statement, to raising and maintaining the standards of the medical practice of anesthesiology and to improving patient care. Through education, research, and advancing scientific knowledge, ASA supports its membership of physician anesthesiologists and all members of acute care teams to advocate for patients who require anesthesia care, critical care, or relief from pain. ASA is organized to carry out its mission via three major pillars: the divisions of Administrative Affairs, Professional Affairs, and Scientific Affairs. The ASA Division of Professional Affairs, under the leadership of ASA Vice President for Professional Affairs Dr. Lois Connolly, was afforded the opportunity to highlight the work and important efforts of the committees within this division.
