As my final year as ASA Secretary winds down, I am inspired to reflect on what we've accomplished and what we are likely to face in the years to come. I am reminded that membership is at the heart of everything ASA fights for. Our active, engaged members drive the society's organized efforts to advocate for fair payment, physician-led care, physician wellness, and for much, much more.

Together, we have weathered some difficult years. Through it all, we've maintained our membership strength at a time when many medical societies are losing members and giving up ground. Indeed, ASA had 53,499 members in 2018, and the society has grown to 56,875-strong and includes the largest cohort of medical student and resident members in our history.
