The 2021 ASA Distinguished Service Award (DSA) was bestowed upon James D. Grant, MD, MBA, FASA, at ANESTHESIOLOGY® 2022 in New Orleans, Louisiana, this October. The DSA is ASA's highest honor and is presented annually to a member who has transformed the specialty of anesthesiology. Dr. Grant was recognized for his highly distinguished career as an anesthesiologist, enduring contributions to ASA members, and deep commitment to advocating for the specialty and protecting patient safety.
Jim Grant served as ASA President in 2017–18. His term was marked by a number of pressing challenges – and an equal number of significant successes.
