The exponential growth in neurosurgery, neurology, and interventional neuroradiology has led to an increased demand for fellowship-trained neuroanesthesiologists who need to be well-rounded experts in specific skills and function as perioperative neuroscience innovators and team leaders (J Neurosurg Anesthesiol 2019;31:267-9). The current situation has been one of heterogenous training in the subspecialty without standardization in terms of curricula or duration of training and accreditation. The Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC) has held multiple meetings among its members to debate and discuss the foundational concepts relevant to further training in neuroanesthesiology.

Most subspecialty accreditation has been U.S.-based. However, SNACC is an international scientific society with a history of membership and leadership from several non-U.S.-based countries that have robust neuroanesthesiology services and training programs.
