As we embark on a new year, I hope you have been able to recharge and reflect and have found your 2021 purpose with renewed energy. Most of us by now will have completed our COVID vaccination and, with the promise of immunity and some peace of mind, feel assured that we can safely care for our patients while protecting ourselves, our families, and communities.

This past year has been like no other. An invisible virus has ravaged the world, exposing the fragility, constraints, and injustices of our health, financial, and social systems. We have seen the limitations of our “just-in-time” supply chain – even during the COVID vaccination deployment, the gaps in preparedness for the unthinkable, and the difference between our lofty rhetoric of quality care for all versus our persisting daily inequalities, especially for Black and Hispanic patients.
