The transition from fee-for-service to value-based payment models in health care in recent years has inspired hospitals to improve quality while also bringing down costs. Often, that begins with finding new approaches to delivering vital but expensive perioperative care.
Enter, the ASA Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH), a paradigm-changing tool designed to help hospitals better integrate the sometimes-disjointed delivery of care before, during, and after surgery. The PSH model developed by ASA was introduced in 2012 and has helped facilities around the country reduce costs and improve patient quality of care by coordinating all phases of perioperative care, from scheduling through the first 30 days postop.
