This issue focuses on the Perioperative Surgical Home (PSH) and Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS). The PSH was also the focus of the May 2014 issue of Anesthesia & Analgesia, where cover artist Dr. Naveen Nathan captured the complexities with a Rubik’s Cube that was poised to either crush us or transport us into the future (Figure 1). In that issue, Butterworth and Green offered a reality check: “It will be up to anesthesiologists to provide the evidence that it will make sense for a health system to have anesthesiologists administer and provide care in its Perioperative Surgical Home rather than another specialist who is equally bright, equally information technology-savvy, but potentially less expensive.”
