The ASA Executive Physician Leadership Program has been offered at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management since 2016. Based upon surveys, the aim of the program was to improve physician leadership among ASA members. An ASA ad hoc leadership committee was responsible for forging a partnership between the society and Kellogg. The program combines the mission of ASA – to raise the standards of patient care in anesthesiology and to enhance patient safety – with the spirit of thoughtful leadership at Kellogg.

The sessions take place at Kellogg’s James L. Allen Center on Chicago’s north shore at Northwestern University’s Evanston campus over two weekends held in September and early December. The six-day course within the Executive Leadership Development Program at the school targets anesthesiologists to acquire knowledge and understanding of “values-based leadership,” financial statements, conflict resolution and feedback.
