The Wood Library-Museum is delighted to induct Christine M. Ball AM, MBBS (Hons), MD, FANZCA, as the 2020 Laureate of the History of Anesthesiology. The ceremony took place this fall, and with the current travel restrictions to and from Australia caused by the COVID pandemic, it was the first virtual induction!
Dr. Ball is a most worthy honoree. She has spent most of her professional career as an active anesthesiologist while studying the history of anesthesiology. Her major area of focus is the career of Joseph Clover, of which she is the world's expert. Chris has studied the diaries and letters of Mr. Clover, as well as all of the professional documentation he left behind. She has tracked down relatives and learned many of the behind-the-scenes stories that bring Joseph Clover to life as the Victorian physician he was.
