Marty Giesecke, M.D., has retired after seven years as Editor-in-Chief. In his January 2013 inaugural editorial, Marty asked readers to acknowledge the efforts of his predecessor, Doug Bacon, M.D.: “Please join me in congratulating Doug for his commitment to ASA and his service to the NEWSLETTER.” He also noted that “Doug has left me in a good position to provide quality editorial guidance.”

I want to similarly express recognition, appreciation and congratulations to Marty for his seven years of service. Under his capable leadership, the ASA Newsletter grew into the ASA Monitor. Marty added new sections, a new focus and broadened the scope from mostly ASA updates to a wide swath of news and insights that benefit our patients and inform our practice.
