Although the title of this year’s Severinghaus Lecture suggests an emphasis on pulmonary physiology, Dr. Wiener-Kronish would like to reassure attendees that the lecture is intended for everyone and should not be seen only as a physiology lecture.
Physiology will indeed be discussed, but the real focus of the presentation is the story of how anesthesia practice and discovery impact the care of mechanically ventilated patients today, as well as ECMO patients.
A world-renowned speaker and researcher, Dr. Wiener-Kronish is currently Henry Isaiah Dorr Professor at Harvard Medical School and Chair of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. She began her career at the University of California, San Francisco, running a lab from 1986 until 2008, where she was also named Vice Chair for Research in 1996.
