This promises to be an exciting and productive year for the Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists (SOCCA). As discussions about the Perioperative Surgical Home and the role of anesthesiologists in the future of medicine continue to advance, the field of critical care is recognized as an opportunity for many individuals, groups and departments to demonstrate their value. As our population ages, has a greater coexisting disease burden and undergoes previously inconceivable interventions, the dichotomy between intensivists and anesthesiologists begins to fade. While many view SOCCA as an organization solely for intensivists, the society is becoming increasingly relevant to all anesthesiologists. In recognizing this change, SOCCA is restructuring itself to better serve its members in addition to serving as a valuable resource for all anesthesiologists.
