Stephanie Arnold described how a consultation prior to labor and delivery with her physician anesthesiologist, Nicole Higgins, M.D., saved her life when an amniotic fluid embolism occurred during her cesarean section on “Megyn Kelly TODAY” in December. Dr. Higgins had flagged her file and incorporated extra blood and a crash cart in the operating room. Having those tools immediately on hand saved Stephanie’s life.
In December, “Good Morning America” featured William R. Camann, M.D., in a segment on “gentle” cesarean sections, which allow moms-to-be to remain awake during the procedure and have immediate contact with their baby. During the segment, Dr. Camann said “The requests for this type of concept have absolutely increased over the years.” Also in December, McCallum Hoyt, M.D., described the calming effect nitrous oxide can have during labor in a Houston Chronicle article on Memorial Hermann hospital’s pilot program to reintroduce laughing gas to expecting mothers....
