Certified Anesthesiologist Assistants (CAA) are highly skilled health professionals who work under the direction of physician anesthesiologists to implement anesthesia care plans. All CAAs possess a premedical undergraduate background and complete a comprehensive didactic and clinical program at the graduate school master’s degree level. In order to achieve this high level of training, they must attend and graduate from one of the 12 accredited AA educational programs in the country.
The two most recent AA programs to open their doors to their respective inaugural classes are the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in 2016 and Indiana University (IU) in 2017. During its first year, MCW chose 12 students for its entering class from more than 100 applicants, and in 2017, another 15 students matriculated.
