It is a privilege to serve as president of the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC). SNACC has played an important role in my career, not only as a neuroanesthesiologist but as a neuroscientist in the field of anesthesiology. As I began exploring a vision for SNACC during my tenure as president, I realized there was a need to reconceptualize neuroanesthesiology itself. I have, as a result of this realization, described what I deem to be three foundational “pillars” of the subspecialty:
First Pillar:The care of neurosurgical patients. The clinical care of individuals with neurologic compromise represents a true opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
