Daniel J. Cole, M.D., 2016 ASA President, called to order the opening session of the 69th meeting of the ASA House of Delegates (HOD) at McCormick Place convention center in Chicago at 8 a.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016. There were 368 properly credentialed delegates seated, easily comprising a necessary quorum.
The proceedings of the HOD were prefaced by guiding and inspirational words of invocation, this year provided by Dr. B. Herbert Martin Senior, pastor of the Progressive Community Church of Chicago. ASA Registration and Housing Manager Phillip Ridley sang “America the Beautiful.” During his opening remarks, Dr. Cole recognized the many honored guests present, representing anesthesia and medical societies from across the globe.
