Even as the future of health care grows increasingly uncertain, ASA’s strategic plan continues to provide direction and clarity to our organization and our specialty. As we close out our current strategic plan for 2015-17, we can reflect with pride on our many notable accomplishments. Indeed, this strategic plan provided critical momentum in a number of areas, including significant achievements in advocacy at both the federal and state levels, differentiation of anesthesia in the VA Nursing Handbook and requiring physician supervision in the VA, the development of Perioperative Surgical Home and Anesthesia Quality Institute resources, and enhancement of our educational offerings. But it is essential that we look ahead. Indeed, as the great baseball philosopherYogi Berra once said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.”
