For 30 years, the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) has been fueling the future of anesthesiology by supporting early-career anesthesiologists in their pursuit of new scientific knowledge. In its second grant funding cycle in 2016, the FAER Board of Directors approved $875,000 to fund the research of six anesthesiologists and trainees. With this funding, FAER will have committed more than $2.5 million in new funding in 2016, and more than $36.2 million total to anesthesiology and perioperative research since 1986.

FAER grants aim to help develop the research careers of anesthesiologists who seek to answer important questions and make scientific discoveries in topics related to perioperative, critical care and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists who have received FAER grant funding have an excellent chance of securing highly competitive federal funding and go on to have successful careers as independently funded physician scientists who advance medicine through newfound knowledge.
