ASA members from coast to coast championed the specialty during Physician Anesthesiologists Week 2015, alerting policymakers, the media and the public that when seconds count, physician anesthesiologists save lives.
During the week, messages about the role physician anesthesiologist’s play in protecting patient safety reached key audiences through social media engagement, state and local proclamations, local media outreach, online engagement and in-person meetings with colleagues and legislators.
Social Media Engagement: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn included a surplus of physician-led care messages during the week. On Twitter, the #PhysAnesWk15 hashtag was used in 477 tweets by 149 participants, leading to 761,369 overall impressions. A Facebook post highlighting a Detroit News letter to the editor on the week broke ASA social media records, reaching 21,384 people, attracting 1,360 clicks and 265 likes, comments and shares.
