Please allow me to disclose that I am a Lifetime Friend of the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology (WLM).I am also a member of the museum’s board of trustees.

My lot in life is to be one of those late baby boomers who embrace new technology (though I haven’t quite mastered Twitter), and yet one who still loves to read a book by turning actual paper pages. There is just something wonderful about the heft of a book in one’s hands, the artistry of the type setting, the quality of the binding, the aroma of the paper.

It has been my good fortune to love books and to have many role models of a similar persuasion. This all started with my parents, whose home library included an entire wall of shelves, eight feet tall by 20 feet long, stuffed with books (and an occasional knick-knack). Many hours of my youth...
