The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) has long recognized the primary role of anesthesiologists in establishing distinct subspecialty practice, and as a result the ABA has established a number of subspecialty certification programs throughout the years. The ABA currently offers subspecialty certification in critical care medicine, pain medicine, hospice and palliative medicine, sleep medicine and pediatric anesthesiology.

Candidates and diplomates interested in submitting applications for subspecialty certification must do so online via their portal accounts available from the ABA website at www.theABA.org. Please visit the Examinations & Certifications page of the ABA website for complete application requirements.

The ABA will administer the Pediatric Anesthesiology Subspecialty Certification Examination annually, beginning in 2013. Applications for the October 19, 2013 examination will be accepted through February 15, 2013.
