Read the article by Sessler et al . entitled “Broadly applicable risk stratification system for predicting duration of hospitalization andmortality” on page 1026 and the accompanying editorials by Orkin entitled “Risk stratification, risk adjustment, and other risks” on page 1001 and Cohen and Hannenberg entitled “Risk stratification index: An important advance in comparing health care apples to oranges” on page 1004 of this issue.
Learning Objective(s)
After completing this activity, the learner should be able to apply the principles of risk stratification to their practice, judge the relative merits of current public risk stratification systems, and recognize patients who are at increased risk of mortality based on their diagnosis codes.
